Erasmus: Top 35 Universities

Erasmus! The most famous programme launched in 1987 which sent millions of students abroad to live an experience they would never forget! Lets make a little quizz: where do you think those students have mainly gone? Here is the top 100 of higher education institutions receiving Erasmus students in 2009/10.

Following its fame, Spain is the spearhead of the programme! The University of Grenada is the first of the list having hosted more than 1800 foreign students during the school year 2009/10. The rest of the top ten is occupied by other Spanish Universities such as the ones of Valencia, Madrid, Seville, Barcelona or Salamanca. Three Italian universities come along in this top ten, the universities of Bologna, Firenze and Roma. Although if the top 10 shows a particular interest for southern European countries such as Spain and Italy,  Scandinavia countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland are also well classified in the top 100 ans seems attracting loads of students. Students are well spread across Europe and possibilities are given to discover “hot” and “cold” cultures and lifestyle while studying!
However, one should never forget that an Erasmus experience is always something amazing even though done in a university hosting less international students. Some former Erasmus are stating that the fact of doing its Erasmus in a smaller international community or town makes it different and allows you to live experiences you would not have lived in a big university/city. The debate is open and we are sure everyone has its own opinion regarding its experience. We are waiting for you  stories, whether in a small or big university!
